Clean and Seal Dental Program is a Massachusetts school-based oral disease prevention and dental health promotion program. We administer evidence-based oral healthcare services including dental screenings, oral health education, fluoride varnish, dental prophylaxis, and dental sealants. In addition, students K-12 receive a list of dental offices in their community that accept MassHealth Insurance. There is no cost to the schools, parents, and children. However, MassHealth insurance may be billed for specific procedures.
To date we’ve treated over 20,000 students, this averages out to an estimated 2,000+ students each year. To grow our business we will be expanding our operations to serve a broader spectrum of individuals including those with special needs, the elderly, and those who are homebound.
A key attribute that distinguishes Clean and Seal Dental Program is the dedication to cultural competence. Cultural competence is defined as the ability of health care professionals to communicate with and work effectively to deliver high-quality care to patients of diverse socio-cultural backgrounds. For Clean and Seal this includes: various Latino countries, Ecuadorian, Mexican, Dominican, Puerto Rican, Jamaican, Haitian, Cape Verdean, and Brazilian, as well as Vietnamese, Chinese, and other cultures.

“We live in an era where with just a few keystrokes everyone can share a photo of themselves with a perfectly brilliant smile. But that smile won’t hold up in person, unless there is a commitment to respecting and protecting ourselves through good oral hygiene practices and habits. But first we must be taught how to do that.”
–Faith Brooks, RDH, BSDH, M.Ed.
As a Public Health Dental Hygienist, Faith Brooks is dedicated to improving the lives of Massachusetts patients through direct access to and education about preventative dental care. Oral health is much more valuable than the smiles we share; it is an essential part of a person’s well being.
Research has proven that neglecting oral health can lead to decreased school performance, poor social relationships, and diminished success later in life. In addition, significant health repercussions result from a failure to take care of the entryway to our body’s digestive and respiratory systems.
Brooks defies stereotypes by practicing and teaching preventative measures that are simple, painless, and free through MassHealth. Her focus is on the most vulnerable patients including those living in low-income households whether they are children, seniors, or the developmentally disabled. She employs special techniques that help diminish fear in young and old patients in part by eliminating pressure and positioning dental health visits as a pleasurable activity.
During her time as a PHDH, Brooks estimates that she’s worked with over 20,000 students in various communities throughout the Commonwealth. She has been employed by multiple private dental practices and was a clinical Dental Hygiene Instructor throughout her 17-year dental health career. She’s used her experiences to develop a series of dental care instructional videos for students of all ages and their parents.
Brooks also shares her skills on a global platform. She first volunteered as part of a college trip to Ecuador and has continued to serve when the opportunities arise. She provided aid through a 2016 medical/dental mission trip to Columbia with the Shine Organization and in July 2023 she traveled to Zanzibar as part of the Nitasimama Foundation where she educated 80-100 patients over the course of 3 days.
